Finalizing the manuscript was the hard part right?
You've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours world-building, outlining, drafting, redrafting, rewriting, editing, tossing it all out and then starting again. Countless hours or sleepless nights devoted to your brainchild that now sits in front of you. You take a deep breath and relax, the hard part is over...or so you think. Well the truth of the matter is you couldn't be farther from the truth...
Don't feel bad, we've all been there...
That process you've just gone through is without a doubt one of the most grueling and testing things a person can do. Writing a book is something only a fraction of the population can do. It takes grit, determination, and an iron will. You should congratulate yourself, pat yourself on the back, sing, dance, go out and get a drink. Celebrate it!
It was nothing compared to what you now face. The dragon you faced when drafting your final manuscript was a beastly and horrifying gorgon of the depths, but now you face a climb up Mount Olympus. Now you have to slay gods, or at least channel their energy. No it is not the gods of Olympus. They are the gods of promotion, marketing, and social media... and they are fickle, flaky, and frightening.
Let's face it, authors are not born sales people...
Nor do we have to be naturally gifted in the slinging, sly tongued art of making deals. But we do have to become proficient if we are ever going to have the investment of time pay off. Whether or not you wrote the book for money, for fame, or for posterity, we can all agree that we want people to read it.
So what the Hell do we do?
That Question is Daunting!
Make no mistake that question terrifies the majority of us...
Whether you have decided to tackle agents, submit your manuscript through queries to publishing houses, or take the routes of crowd-publishing or self-publishing its hard. It's beyond hard, it is a quest for only the most valiant, but it is not impossible. Thousands of authors have made their way in this saturated, competitive market, and you can do it too.
And only if you commit to the process fully. Now that is not to say there is only one way to accomplish what you aim for. There is one thing in common with all of the paths I hope to describe in this series, and that is a level of commitment and steely resolve in the face of defeat. Don't be fooled it is a war, but it is a war you can win, you just have to know what you are fighting for. It has to be crystal clear and you have to believe that you are going to succeed. That sounds like a bunch of new age hooey, I know, but it is the one thing that successful people do that provides them the resolve to succeed where others fail. They found a way to eliminate the desire to quit when it gets hard.
I am going to be upfront with you...
I am new to this entire process, like brand new. I've sold a handful of my first novel, and so I'd hardly call myself a best-seller. Yet...
What I do have is an understanding of how to market, sell, and promote my work and I want to pass that knowledge on to you. That is the purpose of this blog series. I am going to take what I have learned and condense it into these blogs in digestible, actionable chunks. I am talking about tips, tricks, lessons and everything that I know.
Call it Karma, good will, or the law of attraction I do believe that the best way to succeed yourself is to make sure those around you rise with you. The Indie Author, Artist, and Creative community is important, more so now then it ever has been. This world needs independent voices, stories, and lessons in order to continue to grow and I want it to grow. Why? Because I am one of the idiots of live in it! Thanks Star-Lord.
Now, it is not only out of good will...
I do plan to monetize these posts. Once I am done with the series, it is going to come out on Kindle Unlimited. Because... that is one of the ways to promote yourself. One of many that I hope to show you in this heavily researched, tried and true, sure-fire, fool-proof path to best-selling books.
But there are a million of those books on Amazon you say?
It is true there are about a million and one marketing guru's, sales sorcerers, and prophets of promotion. They have used the very same systems I am going to talk about in this series to provide themselves with an author platform that has broad audiences and lasting potential. So let's go over some of the things I want to cover in this series!
Just a handful of topics to begin with...
These are very broad categories that I will go into depth explaining the ins and outs. What has worked for me, What has worked for others, etc. There is a wealth of information on the web these days about each of these topics, so my goal is to condense it into actionable steps that you can put to good use!
So what do I want in return for all this leg work?
Free tips and tricks for you to use and all you have to do is share it! Let others know about what you learned and send them back over here to the blog so that they can learn how to leverage social media to find an audience. So that they can learn to navigate the maze that is Amazon KDP. In hopes that they can learn to build their own website and create a lasting author platform!
If you can do that, then we all win!
I expect this journey to be fun!
Stay tuned, I plan to release a tip. trick, or lesson on these topics every day or two so get ready to learn quickly! Can't wait to get started! I expect the first post to go live on Monday, but I'd love to hear what you want to learn about first so make sure to fill out the survey above!
